Hibachi Racing Jacket

Outerwear • Winter 2025 • Cut & Sew

The Hibachi Racing Jacket plays with bootleg motorsport iconography and Japanese snack aesthetics. This varsity-style jacket is loaded with custom chenille and satin-stitched patches and contrast panels running down the sleeves. Its cropped silhouette and rigid cotton shell give it a boxy, punchy shape that pairs easily with denim or baggy pants.

Concept

Inspired by race jackets, vending machine packaging, and 90s sticker sheets. This jacket riffs on fake sponsorships, sugary slogans, and anime mascots — remixing them into something loud, weird, and distinctly street.

Details & Construction

Jacket body is heavyweight cotton canvas with poly lining. Patches include chenille, satin stitch, and twill base across multiple vendors. Sleeve stripes are contrast twill sewn into seam. Cropped hem and cuffed sleeve opening emphasize shape. All snaps are matte black.

Reflection

This piece helped me streamline patch sequencing and vendor coordination. It was also a test in silhouette: getting the crop just right while maintaining sleeve volume. A solid study in embellishment density vs. visual balance.
