ABOUT

Hi, I’m Christian
a fashion and technical designer based in San Mateo, CA, with a background in engineering and product development. I approach clothing like I approached product systems: with a focus on fit, form, function, and how the details come together to actually make something work.
After starting my career in medtech product development, I transitioned into fashion by working as an Assistant Fashion & Technical Designer at the independent streetwear brand RARECANDY, a role that’s let me work closely on everything from initial sketches and garment construction to digital sampling and tech pack creation.
What I do
At RARECANDY, I support the full design process across both creative and technical sides. I develop flats and graphics in Illustrator, help prototype samples, lead digital simulations in CLO3D, and build out detailed spec sheets and tech packs for production.
I’ve contributed to fit corrections, vendor-ready documentation, 3D garment renders, and new product launches — always with an eye on construction, proportion, and quality.
Before Fashion
Before (and alongside) fashion, I’ve spent over a decade working as a Product Development Engineer in the medical device industry. My focus has been designing 3D-printable products for head and neck cancer patients, work that demands precision, empathy, and a deep understanding of how things are built and used in the real world.
That experience shaped how I think: I approach problems structurally, care about user experience, and never design anything without knowing how it’s going to be made.
But fashion has always been where my instincts live. It’s how I express ideas, explore form, and think through identity. Over time, it became more than a creative outlet, it became the thing I wanted to take seriously.
Now, I’m actively translating my engineering experience into this space: building garments with the same discipline I applied to medtech — but with more fabric, more movement, and a lot more intention.
What Guides My Work
• Garments should work — structurally, functionally, and visually
• Clear specs make better products (and better relationships with vendors)
• Fit should feel intentional — and never be left to chance
• There’s value in both experimentation and repeatability
Skills Snapshot
• Fashion & Technical Design
• CLO3D Garment Visualization
• Pattern Drafting & Grading
• Spec Sheets, BOMs, and Tech Packs
• Illustrator, Photoshop, Rhino
• Cross-functional Communication
• Background in Engineering/Product Dev
